Leadership & Stewardship

North Star House is cared for by a community of people working together to preserve its history, maintain the property, and keep it active and accessible for future generations.

As a historic property operated by the North Star Historic Conservancy, our work extends far beyond the walls of the House. It includes preservation and restoration, gardens and grounds, historical research, public tours, community programs, private events, fundraising, communications, and the day-to-day care required to keep a historic estate in use.

That work is guided by our Board of Directors and carried forward by staff, committee leaders, and dedicated volunteers who bring their time, experience, and expertise to different areas of North Star House.

Board of Directors

The North Star Historic Conservancy Board of Directors provides governance, financial oversight, long-term planning, and strategic direction for North Star House.

Board members work closely with staff and volunteer leaders to balance preservation with the continued use of the property, helping ensure that North Star House remains both historically significant and actively connected to the community it serves.

Volunteer Leadership

Volunteers have always been central to the life of North Star House.

Many areas of the property and organization are supported by volunteer leaders who coordinate specialized work, organize teams, preserve institutional knowledge, and help move important projects forward.

These leaders oversee areas such as restoration, interiors, gardens and grounds, historical interpretation, docent tours, events, and other ongoing initiatives throughout the estate.

A Working Community

Preserving North Star House is an ongoing effort. Some of that work is highly visible, while much of it happens quietly behind the scenes: repairing historic spaces, researching the property's history, caring for gardens, welcoming visitors, preparing for events, raising funds, and planning what comes next.

Together, our Board, staff, and volunteers are working toward the same goal: keeping North Star House preserved, useful, welcoming, and connected to the community around it.
