Celebrating Creativity at North Star House: May Arts Council Creative Meetup

On May 1st, 2025, North Star House welcomed a vibrant gathering of artists, makers, and creatives from across the county for the May Arts Council Creative Meetup. It was a joy to see our historic venue come alive with conversation, collaboration, and community spirit. The evening provided a meaningful opportunity for connection in a space deeply rooted in history and creativity.

A Journey Through History

Guests were treated to a special tour of North Star House, led by board member Rich Hill. This tour offered a glimpse into the rich history and architectural beauty of our space. It was a unique chance to understand the stories behind the walls and the significance of preserving this landmark.

Board member Ken Underwood followed with a powerful narrative about the ongoing restoration of the house. His story highlighted the remarkable efforts of dedicated volunteers who are bringing new life to this historic site. Their work is an inspiring testament to community spirit and the dedication to preserving our local heritage.

Artist in Residence Insights

Artist in Residence, Jen McGuire, also shared her journey and the upcoming classes she will be offering. Her passion for creativity and teaching was palpable, and many attendees expressed interest in participating in her sessions. This connection between artist and community is essential. It provides a platform for growth, exploration, and art appreciation.

Mindfulness and Movement

As the evening drew to a close, attendees were invited to participate in a unique mindfulness and movement activation. This event was hosted by the Nevada County Arts Council in collaboration with Move Your Body Calm Your Mind.

Led by Michaelyn of the Nevada County Arts Council, the group engaged in a Tsalagi-inspired 7 Pointed Star Dance of Life. This grounding and beautiful dance created a celebratory atmosphere to end the evening, encouraging personal reflection and community connection.
