Leave Your Mark at North Star House with an Engraved Memorial Brick

Historic places are built not only by architects and craftsmen, but also by the generations of people who care enough to preserve them.

At North Star House, that community support has played an important role in restoring and caring for the property. Our engraved brick program gives supporters a permanent way to become part of that story while helping fund the continued preservation of this historic Julia Morgan-designed estate.

Become Part of North Star House History

When you purchase an engraved brick, your personalized message becomes a lasting part of the grounds at North Star House.

Bricks are placed near the historic entryway, creating a visible collection of names, memories, milestones, and community connections that grow alongside the restoration of the property.

You may choose to honor a loved one, celebrate a wedding or anniversary, recognize your family, commemorate an organization, or simply leave your own connection to North Star House behind.

The program currently offers two brick sizes:

  • 4" x 8" engraved brick: $300, with up to three lines of text

  • 8" x 8" engraved brick: $1,000, with up to six lines of text

Replica bricks are also available for supporters who would like a keepsake to display at home.

A Personal Way to Celebrate Someone or Something Special

Every brick tells a different story.

Some are placed in memory of someone who was deeply loved. Others celebrate weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, friendships, family names, businesses, volunteer service, or a connection to Nevada County.

An engraved brick can be used to:

  • Honor a family member or loved one

  • Create a memorial for someone special

  • Celebrate a wedding or anniversary

  • Mark a birthday or milestone

  • Recognize a local business or organization

  • Thank a volunteer or community member

  • Celebrate your own connection to North Star House

For couples who have celebrated their wedding here, a brick can also become a permanent reminder of the day they became part of the property's story. You can learn more about weddings and celebrations at North Star House.

Why Bricks Are Especially Meaningful at North Star House

Brick is already part of the architectural story of North Star House.

Julia Morgan incorporated natural materials including brick, stone, and wood throughout the estate, helping create the Arts and Crafts character that still defines the property today.

Over more than a century, however, portions of the property deteriorated significantly. North Star House stood vacant for more than 20 years before community-led restoration began in 2006.

Today, volunteers, donors, supporters, and visitors continue the work of bringing the estate back to life.

Your Brick Helps Support Preservation

Purchasing a brick is more than adding a name to the property.

Proceeds support the ongoing restoration, maintenance, landscaping, and preservation work required to care for North Star House.

The property is owned and operated by the North Star Historic Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Much of the progress visitors see today has been made possible through volunteers, donations, events, rentals, memberships, and community support.

Every contribution helps move another piece of the property forward.

If an engraved brick is not the right fit, there are also other ways to support North Star House, including memberships, sponsorships, volunteering, and direct donations.

Come See the Bricks in Person

One of the best parts of an engraved brick is that it becomes something you can return to.

Supporters can visit North Star House, walk the grounds, see their brick, and experience the restoration work their contribution helped support.

Public docent-led tours are offered throughout the year and provide a closer look at the estate's architecture, history, restoration, and the people connected to it.
