The North Star House Youth Volunteer Program is designed to give young people meaningful experience in a professional setting. Volunteers learn directly from mentors, explore different fields, and develop skills that can be carried into future jobs, college, or creative projects.
Marketing & Communications
Work on real projects that tell the story of the North Star House. Create social media content, capture photos and videos, and help promote events. Learn how organizations use marketing and branding to reach an audience.

Fundraising & Development
See how nonprofits raise the support that keeps programs alive. Assist with donor mailings, design membership packets, prepare thank-you letters, and help at fundraising events.

Art Programs & Classes
Help facilitate art workshops and community classes. Learn how to prepare spaces, welcome participants, and support instructors.

Event Planning & Coordination
Learn what it takes to plan community events from start to finish. See how scheduling, logistics, marketing, and guest experience all come together. Volunteers take part in planning discussions, assist with preparation, and help on event days to watch the full process in action.

Booking & Operations
See what it takes to manage a busy event center. Learn about scheduling, client communications, and day-to-day office tasks that keep events running smoothly.

Trades & Restoration
Work alongside professionals restoring a historic building. Learn about carpentry, painting, plumbing, project/team management, and other practical skills that preserve the House.

Contribute to blog posts, volunteer spotlights, newsletters, or research for grants. See how professional writing helps connect communities and share impact.

Landscaping & Maintenance
Learn what it takes to care for the grounds and facilities of a historic venue. Explore areas like machine maintenance, seasonal upkeep, and how to prepare outdoor spaces for events. Volunteers also gain experience with landscaping practices, including the care of native plants and sustainable garden management.
